Dabkeh: The Dance That Embodies Syria's Heritage

Syria is distinguished by its very rich cultural heritage due to the influence of those ancient civilizations that flocked to Syria 7 thousand years ago. This article focuses on the traditional Syrian dance called Dabkeh.
Dabkeh is a group dance, which this group of people line up in a straight line or curved line, and the line can be all men only or men and women together. This depends on the area, because the Dabkeh dance differs slightly from one area to another.
Dabkeh is also characterized by the fact that the dancers' movements are synchronized and similar, these movements are mainly represented by walking and jumping with distinctive movements of the legs followed by striking the ground with the feet. In this dance, there is a leader of the group who holds a rosary or shawl in his hand in addition to waving it.
There are types of Syrian Dabkeh and each are in the country has its own type of Dabkeh, and what distinguishes one type of Dabkeh from another is the timing of striking the ground with the foot and the timing is determined by the number of steps taken by the dancer.
Types of Dabkeh: Barziya Dabkeh, Hawli Dabkeh, Tartous Dabkeh, and Hal Asmar Dabkeh.
The Dabkeh is a cultural symbol that Syrians are proud of, and they pass this dance on to their children so that this legacy remains immortal forever. the Syrian Dabkeh remains a powerful reminder of Syria's rich heritage and history.
